The Sun Angel edition by Ashley Martinez Literature Fiction eBooks

When seventeen year old, Jenna, is out shopping she hardly expects to witness a murder. Much less a murder committed by her new mysterious classmate, Will.
This is her first encounter with a Dark Angel, those who rule the night.
She begins having strange dreams, seeing things that aren't supposed to be real, and to top it all off, she discovers she isn't even human herself.
Now the sun is missing and she has no choice but to follow Will into a new world, desperate to find out who she really is.
Can she find the sun and herself before the monsters of the night destroy the world?

I really wanted to like this book. I think very highly of the person who wrote it and was excited to read her first book. However, I had to stop reading it. The main character, Jenna, goes to a party and gets slipped a drug in her alcohol. She is almost raped except Will intervenes. The next day, Jenna goes bowling and flirts with Will and his friend (supposedly unknowingly). Will comes over to her house later that afternoon and blames Jenna for what happened because she took the drink at the party. And she apologizes! I have several issues with this. First, no one who gets roofied at a party goes bowling the next day like everything is fine, and they shouldn't. This is a traumatic experience! Do we really want to send the message to young girls that if something similar happens, a) it's their fault for taking the drink and b) they shouldn't deal with the experience? AND by all means, hide it from your father....who point blank asks you if something happens he should know about. I understand the narrative point of the experience--Jenna needs a catalyst to teach her to be a fighter, but there is a perfectly convenient bully in her school who could have embarrassed her at the party to the point that she decides to fight. Rape has become such a casual plot point, I don't think people realize the message it sends. I had to stop reading the book at this point. Many young girls have had or will have similar experiences in their lives, and YA literature has an opportunity to teach them how to handle it in a healthy way. This book totally missed that.Product details

So fun to read! Such an amazing idea for a story. I loved reading it and can't wait for more!
Love this book. Could not put it down! Can't wait for the next one.
Just finished The Sun Angel! I loved it!!! Can't wait for the next book!! I was spell bound!!
Such a great book! It was so different than anything I've read before. Kept me so interested that I never wanted to put it down. Great writing! I throughly enjoyed every last sentence. Can't wait for the sequel!
This book was fascinating from beginning to end. The characters were interesting and love able and it was an all ages book. I cannot wait for the next in what I'm hoping and praying will be at least a trilogy! The authors use of fantasy and the experiences of young people was so fantastically mixed. I hope she writes many more.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, different than what I have been reading! Couldn't put it down. Finished it in two days. So now I can't wait for her to get the second book out. Hurry up Ashley!
Very well written story! Caught my interest from the get go! The twists and turns and development of each character was fascinating! I loved the new ideas it presented. Its about time that someone captures the intriguing idea that this story is based on! Without putting too many spoiler alerts, if your looking for a book that has love, adventure, good vs evil, and the power of the world, look no further! Ashley Martinez has taken all of those things and rolled them into one amazing book! I enjoyed it immensely and cannot wait to read the second and see what our exciting characters will do next!
